In the Foreword to this book published in 1931 the Author describes this as a modest brochure printed in response to requests from his kinsfolk in Great Britain and Overseas, and also as a gesture to gratify the wishes of friends in the City. In simple language he tries to convey some ideas of the homely life in Old Portsmouth.


This book also includes genealogical data of a personal nature first published in 1927 for private circulation, with new and wider information resulting from careful research, conveniently incorporated (with illustrations) in the pages succeeding the Author's Reminiscences.
